A woman is dead and two other snowmobilers are missing after an incident near Stanley Mission.
According to the RCMP, three people left Grandmother’s Bay on two snowmobiles Saturday at around 9:30 p.m., heading for Stanley Mission.
Grandmother’s Bay Search and Rescue found snowmobile tracks leading into open water outside of Grandmother’s Bay. The Mounties said ice conditions are poor due to the spring weather and there’s concern the snowmobiles may have broken through the ice.
On Monday, the body of one of the women in the group was found in the water.
The missing people were identified as: 26-year-old Richard McKenzie, who was last seen wearing a grey sweater, black joggers and a black and red hat; and 38-year-old Cindy Roberts, who was last seen wearing a black jacket.
Grandmother’s Bay Search and Rescue, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, RCMP officers and members of the public are searching for the missing people.
Anyone with information about McKenzie or Roberts is asked to call the Stanley Mission or La Ronge RCMP.
