Randy Ambrosie has often spoken about making the CFL the largest global football brand, but at the time we all knew that battle was lost.
The National Football League owns that moniker and the NFL is starting to take it further.
The owners will now be applying for exclusive marketing rights in countries where the CFL has tried to make some inroads like Germany and Mexico.
But Canada, United Kingdom, Brazil, China and Australia have been tabbed as other countries where teams can get their exclusive marketing rights.
So NFL teams will be able to market and could bring NFL games to these countries and get the money all to themselves until a revenue-sharing model comes into play in three years.
This is a major move for the NFL to take its incredibly strong brand and press forward with what appears to be a more aggressive global strategy.
And watch closely to see which six teams win the Canadian rights because expect to see better marketing by those NFL teams than you’ve seen from some CFL teams over the last 10 years.
