The province reached an important milestone in the fight against COVID-19, as we surpassed over 100,000 vaccinations in Saskatchewan.
There were 1,624 new vaccinations reported Friday, bringing the total to 100,195.
The 1,624 doses were given in the northwest (237), north-central (298), Saskatoon (474), central-east (63), Regina (400) and southeast (152) zones.
More people are becoming eligible to get their shots.
Starting Sunday, the Saskatchewan Health Authority Patient Booking System is expanding COVID-19 vaccine appointment options for people who are 72 or older.
People meeting this criteria can book their appointments online at any time using their health cards by clicking here, or by calling 1-833-SASKVAX (1-833-727-5829) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Starting Monday, there will be a drive-through immunization clinic to administer the AstraZeneca vaccine only to people who are 64-years-old on the grounds Evraz Place in Regina. The site will begin to open up to additional ages, in reverse order from oldest to youngest, in the days after.
The drive-thru site will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
You won’t be able to pre-book an appointment for the drive-thru clinics.
Since Saskatchewan’s new booking system launched, 22,151 people in Saskatchewan 76 and older have been booked for their COVID-19 vaccine.
A look at the numbers
In a news release Saturday, the Ministry of Health reported one new death related to the virus, raising the total to 405.
The death was someone in the 70-79 age group in the Saskatoon zone.
There are 153 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan, bringing the provincial total to 30,522 cases. Along with 120 new recoveries, the active case load rose to 1,469.
The new cases are located in the far northwest (two), far north-central (five), far northeast (eight), northwest (nine), north-central (four), northeast (seven), Saskatoon (16), central-east (13), Regina (64), southwest (one), south-central (14) and southeast (five) zones. Five new cases are pending a location and three cases with pending residence information were assigned to the northwest zone.
There are 133 people in hospitals throughout the province with COVID-19.
Of those, 103 are receiving inpatient care in the far northwest (two), far northeast (one), northwest(nine), north-central(six), Saskatoon (45), central-east (four), Regina (32), south-central (two) and southeast (two) regions.
There are 30 people in intensive care units with the virus in the northwest (one), north-central (one), Saskatoon (14), central-east (one) and Regina (12) zones.
