Three people were charged after a break-in that turned into a standoff in the Massey Place neighbourhood Monday.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers responded at about 9:45 a.m., to an apartment in the 1100 block of Avenue W North, just west of Circle Drive. Police were told there may have been guns inside the apartment.
After officers arrived, four people left the suite, but a 33-year-old man refused to exit the building. Members of the Tactical Support Unit and the Crisis Negotiation Team tried to talk with the man for more than four hours.
When the man refused to leave the apartment, police used what they called “less-lethal force” to gain entry. The man used pepper spray on the officers before being arrested.
He was charged with four counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, unlawfully being in a dwelling and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
As well, a 40-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling. The woman also is facing a charge of breach of court conditions.
