Connor McDavid’s 500th and 501st point in 369 games is remarkable.
Tied for the 8th fastest of all-time in NHL history.
Who is he tied with? Sidney Crosby.
Yes, McDavid achieving this feat doesn’t seem all that surprising. He’s been the talk of the league since he arrived five seasons ago. His speed, agility and ridiculous goals have been part of one highlight package after another.
But sharing this moment with Crosby allows us to throw it back a decade ago to when Crosby was the talk of the game. It feels like we almost forgot how good Crosby was in his first five seasons that he scored at the same clip as McDavid.
But the comparisons should stop there. Why? McDavid needs to start showing it in the playoffs.
At this time in McDavid’s career, Crosby had already been sized for a Stanley Cup ring and added two conference championship banners to the rafters for Pittsburgh.
McDavid’s Oilers meanwhile, have managed to win one round in two playoff appearances. Scoring is fun and all, but McDavid would agree winning is better.
