Latest COVID update Jan. 24: Three deaths, province runs out of vaccines

Saskatchewan is out of COVID vaccines for now.

There were 642 doses delivered Saturday, bringing the total to 33,039.

The doses were given in the northwest (261), southeast (233) and Saskatoon (148) areas.

With that, 101 per cent of the doses delivered to the province have been administered. The extra one per cent comes thanks to Pfizer overfilling vials of the vaccine.

In that same news release, the Ministry of Health reported that three more people have died with the virus.

Of those, two were from Regina in the 80+ age group and 60-69 age group. The other was from the far northeast zone and in the 60-69 age group. Since March, 253 people have died with COVID.

There are 260 new cases of the virus, bumping the total number so far to 22,177. Along with 168 new recoveries, the active total was raised to 3,251.

The new cases were reported in the Saskatoon (72), northwest (52), far northwest (26), Regina (42), far northeast (three), northeast (nine), central-east (11), north-central (14), southeast (17), central-west (six), south-central (four), far north-central (one) and southwest (one) zones.

The location has been discovered for eight cases that were previously under investigation. They have been assigned to the northwest (four), north-central (three) and far northwest (one) zones.

The seven-day average of new cases is 272, or 22.5 cases per 100,000 population.

There are 196 people in hospital and of those, 32 are in the ICU in the Saskatoon (15), Regina (nine), north-central (four), northwest (two), central-east (one) and south-central (one) areas.

There were 2,694 tests processed in the province Saturday, which raises that total so far to 490,939.
