Some big changes could be on the way for Saskatoon’s Residential Parking Permit (RPP) program.
According to a report from administration provided to city council last spring, the program hasn’t changed much since 1999 — and many residents have been asking for a review for years.
Concerns about the RPP were raised by those living in neighbourhoods near hospitals, schools and business districts. Significant congestion was one of the top issues raised.
Public consultations took place in June 2019 and again in November and December of 2019.
Some of the proposed new changes to the RPP program include: Limits on how many permits are given to a household (three); the ability to grant permits in extraordinary circumstances; allowing contractors, businesses or non-profit corporations to get them; allowing for permits adjacent to established parking zones; and, allowing for the cancellation of permits.
City councillors are to vote Monday whether to accept the new changes, amend them or defeat the new proposed bylaw.
