There’s some good news about a well-known sports personality who has been battling COVID-19.
Warren Woods has been in the fight of his life against COVID. And there’s some promising news. Woodsy’s daughter Nicole told the Green Zone’s Jamie Nye that Warren is making some gains.
“He’s trending in the right direction,” Nicole said. “He’s not fully out of the worst of it but he’s doing much better than he was in December and right now he’s just starting the recovery process.”
Friends and family have launched a GoFundMe page to help him through his recovery and there has been an amazing response.
“Honestly, it’s stunning,” Nicole said. “I mean, you know growing up that people know him and they recognize him, but you don’t really understand until you see something like this, where there’s so many people willing to donate or just even send a kind word or well wish, which is just as valuable to us as the money. It gives him a well-needed boost and it will ultimately help him.
“I’ve told him all the notes and named off some people that have donated and have let him know where it’s at and he’s astonished — just as astonished as we are. I don’t think he realized how much people love him.”
Reflecting on the experience her dad and family have been through, Nicole is thankful and is thinking about lessons to be learned.
“The only thing I want to say is just a big thank you to all the health-care workers for their unwavering dedication and kindness in caring for my dad and all the other patients suffering from the effects of this virus,” she said. “I think we all have a responsibility to protect one another and the society we live in. It’s not just for us as individuals but for our parents, our grandparents, and those of our friends.
“So I would just tell people to follow public health (and) wear your mask. COVID can turn your life around in an instant. So love your neighbour and keep each other safe.”
Woodsy is a fixture in the Saskatchewan sports scene, having worked as a sports anchor on Global TV for 16 years and as part of the sports team on CJME for seven years. His many years of covering curling led to Woods being inducted into CurlSask’s “Legends of Curling” in 2014.
