Families in a tough spot got a hand for the holidays from 650 CKOM’s Adopt-A-Family.
The program pairs up sponsors with families. The sponsors then shop for gifts, food and donations.
It’s been a Saskatoon tradition for 32 years, starting in 1988, with both the demand and the program growing immensely.
This year, sponsors donated more than $190,000 in cash, gifts and food. That helped out 960 families and 2,200 kids.
The Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon has been heavily involved every year, and 2020 was no different.
“Many of us take the holiday season for granted,” Matt Gore, director of marketing & communications for Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon, said. “There are many families who need help putting food on the table or purchasing gifts for their children. The pandemic has made this year even more difficult and the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon has chosen to respond by doubling the number of families we will be assisting this year to 60.”
Sponsors dropped off their donations Saturday and families collected Sunday.
