Saskatchewan has once again shattered its single-day record of COVID-19 cases with 439 new cases Saturday.
The previous record had been 308 cases last Saturday.
“Fluctuation in daily case numbers can be expected, as a result of factors including weather-related and logistical delays in lab specimens reaching the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory,” the Ministry of Health said in a release issued on Saturday.
The Saskatoon region saw the highest amount of new cases with 170 in the area. Other new cases were reported in the northwest region (56), Regina area (56), north-central (43), southeast (19), south-central (18), southwest (14), central-east (13), far northeast (13), northeast (11), far northwest (nine) and central-west (eight) areas. Nine new cases have pending residence information.
There are 93 people in hospital as a result of COVID-19 throughout the province, including 21 in the ICU.
There are 72 people receiving inpatient care; northwest (eight), north-central (seven), northeast (one), Saskatoon (32), central-east (one), Regina (five), south-central (one) and southeast zone (17).
For the 21 people throughout the province in the ICU, the north-central region has three, along with Saskatoon (11), central-east (one), southwest (one) and Regina (five).
There were 41 recoveries announced on Saturday, bringing the active case total to 2,537 active cases throughout the province.
The seven-day average of daily cases is 203 (16.7 new cases per 100,000 population), information which will be now be regularly reported.
Saturday’s case number reflects a record daily high of 4,580 tests processed on Friday throughout Saskatchewan.
