The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) rescued a woman from the freezing South Saskatchewan River on Monday.
Fire crews received a call from the RCMP just before 2 p.m. about a person in the water south of the city.
A rescue boat was launched and proceeded up river where crews located a woman trapped on an ice shelf.
“Firefighters and paramedics assessed the patient and determined it was not advisable to move the patient up the steep river bank. The patient was loaded into the rescue boat and transported to the SFD boat launch to a waiting ambulance,” said a news release.
On Facebook, Corman Park Police said the woman was taken to hospital in stable condition.
The woman ended up in the river after following her dog into the water. The canine is also in good condition after making it safely to shore.
The SFD is reminding the public to stay away from the river and to stay off the ice.
