There is a perception problem in the Canadian Football League.
Our CFL analyst, Glen Suitor, pointed it out when talking about the ugly situation in B.C.
Star quarterback Mike Reilly is in a fight with the team over a $250,000 bonus he was due.
It was a guaranteed bonus written in his contract that neither the team president nor the team owner signed off on.
So a grievance was filed by Reilly through the CFLPA against the Lions.
General manager Ed Hervey left quietly and suddenly and now we know this was likely part of the reason.
Suitor nailed it when he says it’s these things and the other side deals that go on that give the CFL the perception that it’s somehow “bush league.”
It’s the term I hear the most from the NFL fans around these parts who kick the CFL. And I don’t really blame them when these type of stories become public.
And it’s going to be a perception that’s going to be hard for the league to rid itself of as it tries to appeal to fans again coming out of COVID-19.
