The first sign of spring will, for one year only, be the last sign of autumn.
Yes, on Thursday, the Augusta Invitational Golf Tournament — better known as the Masters — will tee off five months late.
Delayed because of COVID, the course may look a little different than it does in April, but it’ll be the same familiar course everyone has seen over and over again.
It’s that familiarity that makes this tournament a favourite among golf fans. It’s the only major tournament played on the same course every single year. The U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship rotate through several courses and while you know St. Andrews or Pebble Beach, golf fans don’t know the course like the back of their hand like they know Augusta.
The field has a nice quartet of Canadians and everyone is watching if Bryson DeChambeau can turn Augusta into a pitch and putt with his monster drives.
The best part? We only have to wait seven months until the Masters returns to its traditional early-spring schedule.
