Humboldt murder case proceeds to sentencing, judge orders 18-year prison sentence

A Prince Albert man involved in the kidnapping and death of a man from Humboldt is facing an 18-year prison sentence.

Brettin Andrew Veilleux-Pelletier, 22, has entered guilty pleas to a number of charges including manslaughter, unlawful confinement, and break-and-enter. The sentencing hearing was held Thursday at Saskatoon Provincial Court.

In late February, Allan Douglas Garrioch (who also went by the last name Glasier) was reported missing and the investigation later revealed foul play was involved.

The RCMP said it believed Garrioch may have been directed or forced to accompany three unknown males after an altercation at his home. Garrioch’s remains were found about a week later in a rural area near Bruno, northwest of Humboldt.

The four co-accused in the case all have pending court dates. Tristan Daniel Morrison is to have his matters heard Tuesday, followed by Joshua Dominic Canevaro on Jan. 22 for a pre-trial hearing.

Meanwhile, Steven Veilleux — Brettin’s father — is scheduled to be back in court Nov. 12 and Jodi Lynn Veilleux — Brettin’s stepmother — is slated to return to court Thursday.

The pair were arrested March 4 after a 2004 blue Jeep Cherokee didn’t stop for police. The driver and passenger were confirmed to be involved in the disappearance of Garrioch.

RCMP officers were in pursuit of the two on a chase that started on a gravel road south of Davis and ended in Weldon after the suspects’ vehicle got stuck in a ditch. The male fled from the vehicle and Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services located him hiding in a bush. The woman was found in the vehicle.
