Starting next summer, Indigenous communities will have better access to mental health and dental services.
On Thursday, Synergy 8 Community Builders, Nutrien, and Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation kicked off the $3.3 million Drive for Kids campaign.
The money will cover retrofits for a new health bus that will travel to the seven First Nations communities that make up the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STF).
Once complete, the mobile clinic will be able to accommodate a mental health worker, paramedic, dentist and dental assistant.
“(It) will have a positive impact on the residents of the respective Nations along with significant savings to our health care system,” said STC Tribal Chief Mark Arcand in a release.
Earlier this week, the provincial and federal governments committed $250,o000 per year to cover the operation of the bus for five years.
The official launch of the bus will take place at the Synergy 8 Golf and Dinner event which is scheduled for August 31st, 2021.
Celebrities representing the PGA Tour and NHL will be announced in early February.
