AJ Jacubec said roster, coaching and penalties held Canada back at the World Juniors.
Saskatchewan has lent a helping hand to those battling blazes in the United States.
According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s (SPSA) director of communications, Christopher Clemett, the eight-member crew was sent at the request of the State of Washington.
The SPSA deployed an air tanker group to help out in both Washington state and neighbouring Oregon.
“The group consists of two CV580 tankers and an Air Commander Bird Dog, along with eight staff members, including five pilots, two aircraft maintenance technicians and one air attack officer,” an email from Clemett reads.
The group left Saskatchewan on September 10 and are staying in Moses Lake, Washington to assist.
