The rocks are being put back into storage for six more 2021 curling events, including one that was set to take place in Moose Jaw.
Curling Canada announced Thursday it has cancelled six more events: The Continental Cup in Oakville, Ont.; the Canadian under-18 championships in Timmins, Ont.; the New Holland Canadian junior (under-21) championships in Fort McMurray, Alta.; the Canadian wheelchair championship in Moose Jaw; the inaugural Canadian under-15 RockFest; and, the U Sports/Canadian Colleges Athletic Association championships.
None of those events will be rescheduled.
Moose Jaw was set to host the wheelchair tournament from March 21-27.
Curling Canada said the safety of participants and volunteers, travel restrictions, and the costs of running the events with numerous restrictions due to COVID-19 were the reasons for the cancellations.
The status of the remaining Curling Canada championships for the 2020-21 season — the Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s championship, the Tim Hortons Brier men’s tournament, the world men’s curling championship, the Home Hardware Canada Cup and the Canadian mixed doubles championship – hasn’t changed.
