Another option for COVID-19 testing opens in Saskatoon Thursday afternoon— the province’s second drive-thru test centre.
It allows people to be tested without a referral and at later hours.
“Cars will be directed through to the doors of the testing site. Once they enter the building they’ll be directed to a parking place,” Karen Levesque, director-lead for test and assessment centres, told 650 CKOM.
“One of the team members will greet them in the vehicle and ask questions they require for registration.”
Questions include test subjects name, address, family doctor and health card number.
Once registered, another team member goes to the vehicle and conducts the COVID-19 test swab.
Entire households can be tested during one visit, according to Levesque.
“If necessary we might ask one person if we can’t reach into a van or something (to conduct the test) we may ask someone to step out of a vehicle and into a chair,” she said about multiple tests.
To be tested people need to wear a mask and bring their health card to the centre on Thatcher Avenue in the north end.
Levesque hopes the centre will be able to conduct 200 tests a day during drive-thru hours.
She said they’ve taken some notes about Regina’s test centre opening on Tuesday to try and make things go smoothly, including traffic flow.
“We’ve had a team working on the flow of traffic and they’ve met with the city and different groups to ensure there’s a good flow,” she said. “It’s really not a very busy area so they’ve got a good plan in place.”
The test centre at 3630 Thatcher Avenue will offer drive-thru tests Tuesday- Thursday from 12 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and on weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
