A semi truck driver is facing charges after his unit was struck by a Canadian Pacific train Monday.
Saskatoon RCMP said the driver was attempting to cross the tracks at a fertilizer plant in Elstow, southeast of Saskatoon, when he was struck around 11:50 a.m.
The train was pulling 75 mixed cars with four locomotives.
Three of the locomotives derailed along with four cars carrying canola oil. One of the locomotives leaked diesel fuel from the collision, but not canola oil was spilled.
The train hit the centre of the semi trailer, demolishing the storage unit and spilling the fertilizer inside.
Police said the Allen fire department was on-hand after the fuel spill and the provincial spill centre was notified.
The driver of the truck has been charged with proceeding from a stop sign before safe to do so.
No one was hurt in the incident.
