For a few moments, it might feel like you’re in the 1930s.
The Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon is celebrating its 90th anniversary by showcasing Hell’s Angels by Howard Hughes, one of the earliest films on record to have played at the Roxy.
“Hell’s Angels was one of the technical masterpieces of early cinema,” Roxy general manager Jordan Delorme said. “It has a scene that’s fully in colour, it’s touted to be the only colour footage of Jean Harlow throughout her career.”
One thing that stands out about the anniversary is the cost of the ticket.
The ticket only costs 10-cents for adults, and five-cents for kids.
“Concession price will remain the same. There was no concession in 1930 – concessions weren’t in theatres until the 50’s,” said Delorme.

According to Delorme, most people have generally seemed pretty excited to be watching movies in theatres again.
“As long as people keep coming to the theatre and supporting us we will still be around for the 100th anniversary. We survived one depression and we are open post-COVID-19 quarantine. We will stay open and keep showing movies as long as we can.”
“Most people have probably never seen this movie on the big screen, unless you’re really, really old,” he said.
The first show was at 2:00 p.m. A 19 plus showing, with liquor sales, was scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
