12:00 – A group of researchers are using the Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon to help improve the quality of TV screens using a technology called quantum dots. These dots are glowing nanocrystals, which emit vivid coloured light directly rather than filtering light to achieve colour like a typical screen. While quantum dot LEDs still have some issues before they’ll be ready for mass market, the breakthrough made by Dr. Yitong Dong and his team mean that screen quality is only going to improve in the future. Dr. Dong joins Gormley to tell us more.
