Saskatoon mayor Charlie Clark wants to see a provincial policy on wearing masks in Saskatchewan.
On Thursday, Clark threw his support behind a call by Regina Mayor Micheal Fougere for the government to take the lead on creating a provincial standard on face coverings that provides consistency and clarity.
“For me it is simple. If wearing a mask helps keep the virus from spreading, saves lives, and keeps us from going back into lockdown, then it just makes sense, ” Clark tweeted.
I am with @MayorFougere on this message to residents about wearing masks. For me it is simple: if wearing a mask helps keep the virus from spreading, saves lives, and keeps us from going back into lockdown, then it just makes sense. #yxe #yxecc https://t.co/JzipVn0WXU

“As we prepare for colder weather, students returning to school, and flu season, we must do everything we can to mitigate against a second wave in Saskatoon.”
Clark said if the province won’t step up, he believes the time is now to pursue rules at the municipal level.
City Council will discuss the use of masks on transit, civic buildings and public spaces August 24.
