OK, it’s time to remove the sports hat and put on the parent hat for this commentary.
What in the actually you know what is going on with the provincial plan to send our kids back to school? It feels like the province has passed the buck all the way down the line to the teachers, but hasn’t given the teachers the one thing that has been imperative since the start of this pandemic: SPACE!
You know, the two-metre physical distancing thing.
I’m not big on masks at schools at all. You won’t convince me pre-teens and teens will properly wear a mask, without constantly adjusting it or fiddling with it, which completely defeats the purpose of wearing them.
But proper hand hygiene and physical and social distancing can work. What about temperature checks for each child coming into a classroom?
Nope. So far it appears the government is just fine sending kids back into a petri dish of a classroom and fingers crossed we don’t see an outbreak in a communal setting like a classroom — because communal settings have done so well thus far in Saskatchewan, right?
What confuses me the most is why the province has attacked COVID-19 with a better-safe-than-sorry mandate, until it came to our kids going back to school this fall.
