A person in their 70s from the Regina region has died due to complications from COVID-19.
The Saskatchewan government made the announcement in a media release Thursday. It’s the 19th death associated with the coronavirus to date in the province.
The government also reported 11 new COVID-19 cases — 10 of which are in communal living settings. Nine of the new cases are in the south-central region, one is in the Saskatoon zone and one is in the southwest zone.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the province so far is now 1,387.
There were 31 more recoveries announced, increasing that total to date to 1,164. There currently are 204 active cases in Saskatchewan.
There are 13 people in hospital around the province.
Seven people — three in Saskatoon, two in the southwest region, one in the central-east region and one in the Regina area — are receiving inpatient care. There are six people in intensive care, with four in Saskatoon, one in Regina and one in the north-central region.
Of the total number of cases to date, 706 are community contacts, 365 don’t have any known exposures, 205 are travellers, and 111 are under investigation by local public health officials.
So far, 64 Saskatchewan health-care workers have contracted the virus.
There have been 352 cases in the far north zone (346 far northwest, six far northeast), 304 cases from the south zone (150 southwest, 143 south-central, 11 southeast), 226 cases from the north zone (98 northwest, 63 north-central, 65 northeast), 218 cases in the Saskatoon zone, 187 cases in the central zone (159 central-west, 28 central-east) and 100 cases from the Regina zone.
There have been 441 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 435 between the ages of 40 and 59, 243 in the 60-to-79 age range, 218 involving people 19 and under, and 50 in the 80-and-over range.
The 954 tests done in the province Wednesday increased the total to date to 106,019.
The provincial government didn’t hold a media conference Thursday to discuss the latest numbers.
