A 26-year-old man is facing several charges after he barricaded himself in a home on the One Arrow First Nation.
In a release, the RCMP says officers went to the home on Friday and were able to make contact with the man.
The release says Wakaw RCMP secured the area with the help of Rosthern RCMP officers and the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Dog Services.
Four other adults and four children were inside the house when police arrived.
Two of the adults and all of the children left the home after getting direction from the police. A man and a woman refused to leave and stayed in the house.
After communicating for several hours, the man attempted to leave the home and take the woman outside to safety. They were outside the home when the 26-year-old exited and tried to take the woman back inside.
The RCMP says officers were able to get between the three people and the house. After a brief physical struggle and, with the presence of the SPS police dog, the 26-year-old was taken into custody.
The dog was not physically involved in the arrest.
The 26-year-old man is facing several charges, including discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, forcible confinement and uttering threats. He is scheduled to make his next appearance in provincial court in Melfort on July 22.
The One Arrow First Nation is about 25 kilometres northwest of Wakaw.
