Sports fans in North America could be facing an interesting test on just how badly they want to sit and watch their team play amid a global pandemic.
New England sports fans will have to sit physically distanced and are required to wear masks. Some are saying fans may not be allowed to yell, cheer, scream or sing. Clapping only, please.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have recently sent out a survey on if fans would be more or less likely to attend games if certain regulations are in place, like wearing a mask or only being able to sit with those in your household, and even the possibility of only getting select games if the team has to reduce capacity at Mosaic Stadium.
There’s going to be a line when many are just going to choose to stay home.
There is no right answer, as these are all very private and personal decisions on protecting one’s health.
The reality is sports fans were already turning more and more to television and the question for leagues that rely heavily on attendance is not the impact for 2020 or 2021, but what their business plan needs to be from here on out.
