Evan Penner has been found safe.
He’s the man who is at the centre of a police arrest video that shows police subduing a man using punches, pepper spray and a taser.
According to a statement posted on the Indigenous Action Coalition’s Facebook page Tuesday evening, the 27-year-old’s family had been concerned as they had not had contact with Penner since he was released from jail Monday.
In a release, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) said Penner was located Wednesday morning. The release said he is physically healing and his family is working on ensuring his mental health and well-being are also taken care of.
It also says, “This is a very serious and stressful situation for Mr. Penner and his family,” and asks that the family’s privacy be respected.
The FSIN says a media conference will be held in the next couple of days.
