A garage in the 100 block of Avenue L South was destroyed after a fire early Friday.
In a media release, the Saskatoon Fire Department said it received a call about a dumpster fire just after 3:30 a.m. Arriving at the scene, crews found a garage on fire — and the flames were damaging a garage to the north and a shed across the alley.
The heat from the fire ruptured a natural gas line to a nearby garage, prompting firefighters to attempt to stop the flow of gas. A SaskEnergy crew was called to shut off the natural gas.
As well, two power lines were damaged by the fire, so employees of Saskatoon Light and Power were summoned to disconnect the power. SL&P worked Friday morning to restore the power.
It took fire crews about an hour to get the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.
A fire investigator hasn’t been able to determine the cause of the fire. Due to the extent of the damage, the garage was knocked down to reduce the risk to the public.
