The past chair of Saskatoon’s chamber of commerce will be on the ballot for Ward 3 in the fall civic election.
Chris Sicotte, the past chair of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce resigned from his position Tuesday in order to pursue his political ambitions, according to a statement from the chamber. Sicotte will be running in Ward 3 to fill the seat currently held by Ann Iwanchuk, who will not be seeking re-election.
“After much thought, careful consideration, and discussion with my family I am now announcing that I will be running in November to represent Ward 3,” Sicotte wrote on social media Tuesday.
In addition to his leadership role with the Chamber, Sicotte has also served as a board member on the Provincial Métis Housing Corporation and the Saskatchewan First Nations Family & Community Institute, and as national chair of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada.
Carla Browne, current chair of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber, said Sicotte has been an excellent leader.
“He has been instrumental in the establishment of our Indigenous Economic Growth Committee and continually works to foster partnerships with our Indigenous and Non-Indigenous business community in the name of economic reconciliation,” Browne said in a statement.
Ward 3 is comprised of the far western portions of Saskatoon, including Blairmore, Confederation Park, Fairhaven, Kensington, Pacific Heights, and Parkridge.
Saskatoon will go to the polls in early November.
