A 33-year-old man has died after the vehicle he was a passenger in rolled over at Highway 16 and Idylwyld Drive.
Emergency crews were called out at around 3:18 Monday morning after getting reports that a vehicle had rolled, trapping a person inside.
In a release, the fire department said a woman had self-evacuated before crews arrived, and a man was confirmed to be trapped inside with critical injuries.
The man was medically assessed and treated by firefighter-paramedics inside of the heavily damaged vehicle. Fire crews had to cut an opening into the passenger side to gain better access.
The 26-year-old female driver is in hospital and believed to be in stable condition. The male passenger was transported with critical, life-threatening injuries. Police say he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Police said the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
Saskatoon police say the initial investigation shows that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Idylwyld Drive and struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle to roll.
Traffic restrictions have now been lifted at the scene.
