A quick decision by a Saskatoon firefighter helped bring a tense situation to a peaceful end Tuesday evening.
At approximately 8:13 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call from an off-duty fire inspector reporting a person standing on the ledge of the Circle Drive overpass near the Travelodge.
A release said the man was outside of the security fencing and was threatening to harm himself.
Firefighters cut the fencing to gain access, but the man moved closer to the edge.
The department said the battalion chief then reached through the fencing, grabbing the individual and holding him until an aerial ladder truck was in position.
The battalion chief suffered minor cuts from the fencing. The individual who was rescued was taken to hospital as a precaution.
