'Catastrophic error' eliminates Saskatchewan's Team McEwen from Brier

A risky triple-takeout with McEwen holding the last rock in the sixth end ended in disaster.
An early morning collision Saturday south of Saskatoon trapped a 26-year-old man in an SUV.
Saskatoon fire crews were called to the collision on Highway 11 near Grasswood Road just after 4 a.m. and found a tractor-trailer in the ditch and an SUV with extensive damage still on the road, the man trapped inside.
Because of the extent of damage crews had to use a combination of hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools to pry and cut open an area big enough to get the driver out.
He was taken to Royal University Hospital by ambulance with undetermined injuries.
There were no other injuries in the collision.
Traffic was diverted from the area for at least two hours while emergency crews worked in the area.
