We’re going to find out what the waiting game looks like compared to making a firm decision in regards to dealing with the impacts of COVID-19.
Canada West and its counterparts in Ontario and Atlantic Canada made the decision to cancel the first half of the university sports season.
There won’t be any championships, including football’s Vanier Cup.
June 8 seems like a long way out from September to make that choice. Parents, athletes and coaches are frustrated, while those who voted sound quite confident it was the right decision.
Meanwhile, in Quebec, they’re waiting. And as things start to open up, it appears the rule changes come quickly.
So what will things look like in August? Likely quite different than they did June 8.
If Quebec goes ahead and sports function, it won’t be a good look in other jurisdictions.
If Quebec leaves teams waiting and it creates havoc for the student-athletes and universities, it’ll justify Canada West and other conferences.
So, like we’ve lived for three months, we’ll wait and see — because nobody can claim to have the right answers.
