Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for La Ronge, Prince Albert National Park, Narrow Hills Provincial Park, as well as for Pelican Narrows, Cumberland House and Creighton, Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain.
A weather advisory has been issued for Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin and Carrot River.
In the advisory Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds. It says these types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground but can intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.
Environment Canada says landspout tornadoes don’t usually cause a lot of damage but can still be dangerous. They can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances.
Environment Canada says meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms that are over Montreal Lake and heading east towards Cumberland House.
