Saskatoon police say a 40-year-old man has been charged following a physical altercation in a park on the weekend.
In a Facebook post Friday, Nelson Chen wrote his son had been the victim of a racist attack when he encountered a man while the boy rode his bike through Bishop James P. Mahoney Park.
According to Chen, the man shouted racial slurs at his son and accused him of “spreading the virus.” Chen said his son was pushed off his bike and punched. The teen was not seriously injured.
Police say they were able to identify the suspect early, and as a result of further investigation a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The man was taken into custody Thursday morning and charged with assault.
He’s to appear in provincial court on Aug. 13.
