A for sale sign and the ongoing uncertainty around COVID-19 pandemic has raised concerns for customers with bookings at a popular resort in northern Saskatchewan.
Elk Ridge Golf and Conference Centre near Waskesiu shutdown at the end of March due to pandemic. According to their Facebook page, all bookings up to May 14th were cancelled and customers were contacted about refunds or to reschedule.
However, people with bookings after that date say they have been left in the lurch about when the resort will reopen.
“Not getting any information,” said Renee McMahon. She put down a 50 per cent deposit in February for a cabin rental this weekend for her sister’s stagette . They were forced to cancel due to the virus, but getting her money back has been a challenge.
“I sent three emails and I always get the same email back, and then there’s no other numbers to call.”
“It sucks right now because my husband works in the oilfield so you know, we’re down to one income as it is.”
Chad Wandler is worried about his golf trip next month. He put down a deposit, but has had no luck confirming whether the course will be open.
“We need to know if we need to find accommodations elsewhere…so frustrated,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Our reservation isn’t until June 26 – 29 so there’s still time for things to get sorted out, I hope.”
Brett Horton’s wedding plans did get sorted out. He was supposed to get married this July at the hotel. After several attempts he received a response from managing director Greg Waters on April 29th that his wedding would be rescheduled for next summer.
“Apologies for the late response, as I am currently the only staff member, working from my home office,” the email read.
The email noted staff would be returning to work, but no reopen date was given.
A post on the Elk Ridge Facebook page back on March 26 said new bookings would be accepted starting on May 15th. As of Thursday afternoon, there was no update on the website or Facebook page.
Attempts to reach the resort’s management were not successful.
The property was listed with Colliers International back in September, but was first put up for sale several years ago.
