A well-known Saskatoon restaurant is closing its doors for good after a decision was made to demolish the building they occupy in the fall.
In a Facebook post Monday, The Hollows wrote “the Golden Dragon Building will be demolished sometime after September 30th.”
The restaurant has occupied the facility for about eight years.
The decision to demolish the building in Riversdale was made by the fire inspector, the city and building owners, the restaurant said.
“The building needs a lot of work and our landlords decided not to make those investments. We planned on going out with a bang with parties and busy nights – unfortunately in our new reality that is not possible,” the post reads.
The owners considered moving the restaurant to another location, but they felt the restaurant had become “intertwined” with the Golden Dragon building as an identity.
“We are choosing not to move it for fear a new Hollows would never quite live up to the character of the original,” the post reads.
It adds the closure has nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have always run the business as if the apocalypse was around the corner; if there was ever a business that could thrive in a time like this it is ours.”
All gift cards will be honoured at the Hollows’ sister restaurant, Primal Pasta.
When we signed the one year lease 8 ½ years ago we knew that this wouldn’t be forever. With our business growing…
