The Saskatoon Wildlife Federation (SWF) and the Saskatoon Tribal Council are teaming up to provide “the most ambitious meal program” in the city’s history.
The two groups are planning to deliver over 1,000 meals to Indigenous households in at-risk urban neighbourhoods every day until June 30th.
According to a press release, SWF’s role in the program includes offering its commercial grade kitchen for preparation of the meals, preparing lunches every day, along with accepting donations to the cause.
“On the fundraising side, we have secured in excess of $35,000 in cash donations to help off-set the cost of this program. As usual, our local clubs (Straight Shooters, Rifle Revolver, and Rifle Revolver Juniors) have stepped-up and made very generous donations to this initiative,” read the release.
“This is just one more example of how the Federation is not only a part of the community in which we exist but, is amongst the leaders in community involvement.”
When the initiative reaches its end date it will be re-evaluated with a chance to be extended.
Other future plans may include the inclusion of hot meals being delivered at suppertime.
Anyone who is looking to get involved, either by donating to the program or volunteering to help is asked to contact the SWF for more information.
