One of Regina’s most popular sex shops has been seeing the good and bad of people being forced to stay at home.
Lisa Phillipson is the manager at Industrial Luv. She said at the beginning of March when people were just starting to be told to stay home, the store saw a burst of business.
“Folks were still coming in and finding some things that they could be cooped up with that would make their lives a little less boring than the day-to-day paperwork they were given to do from home,” said Phillipson.
But in mid-March, the public health orders came down and shut the store’s doors as a non-essential business. Since then, the store has been selling through its website, but Phillipson said business has decreased.
The store offers pickup and is now offering same-day delivery as well.
“It’s really nice to have fun things show up at your doorstep without even having to put pants on,” Phillipson said.
Phillipson said she and another employee are doing the deliveries and they try to do them as much as possible in a non-contact way.
“We’re just kind of leaving it on the doorstep or in the mailbox and ringing the bell and then just kind of waiting outside to make sure that an adult comes and grabs it,” said Phillipson.
What are people buying while they’re stuck at home for days on end?
Phillipson said the staple items she called “lotions and potions” are still getting sold, but she said some customers are purchasing from sections some might consider a little more “naughty.”
“Folks might be gravitating toward some sections that they might not have originally because they have some extra time on their hands to figure out if that’s a thing they’re really into or not,” she said.
Industrial Luv is locally owned and operated and Phillipson said the store is doing its best to keep the doors open, now and post-pandemic too.
“We really hope folks shop local whenever they’re doing their shopping to help keep businesses like us and our local friends in business all year ’round,” she said.
