Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is temporarily reducing service hours at low-traffic ports of entry along the Canada-U.S. border.
In a media release Wednesday, the CBSA said the changes — which are related to the COVID-19 pandemic — are to come into effect Wednesday at 9:59 p.m. Saskatchewan time. They’re to stay in place until further notice.
“Economic supply chains and trade will remain open and we will work to ensure that access to goods and services is not interrupted,” the agency said in the release. “As such, these changes should not affect commercial traffic.”
Non-essential travel between the countries — including tourism and recreation — was restricted on March 21. Travellers returning to Canada must self-isolate for 14 days upon their return.
In Saskatchewan, four ports of entry (Carievale, Estevan, Northgate and Oungre) now will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. Three crossings (Climax, Monchy and West Poplar River) will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Regway crossing will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
