On March 25, a Saskatchewan RCMP member was advised by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.
In a release sent Monday afternoon, the RCMP says the officer immediately self-isolated as per the direction given by the SHA.
On March 28, the officer was told their test result was positive for COVID-19. The officer, who is stationed in Prince Albert, will continue to self-isolate.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says it is following all directions given by the SHA in relation to the positive test result.
This includes disinfecting any areas the officer may have been in, as well as working with the SHA investigators to ensure the officer’s co-workers are notified and follow the direction given to them by the health authority.
The RCMP also has a request for the public to help maintain the wellbeing of officers who are responding to calls for service, by answering questions from the communications centre.
Members of the public calling for police help will now be asked:
- Are you or any member of your residence ill at this time?
- Have you or any member of your residence had contact with a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19?
Last week, paramedics put out the same request, asking for people to be honest about their health situation so they could attend to a call with the proper equipment to protect themselves from COVID-19.
