Retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield knows a thing or two about self-isolation.
During his career, Hadfield spent more than 160 days in space and became the first Canadian to command the International Space Station.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he gives four tips to make the most out of self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Number one is to understand the actual risk.
“Don’t just be afraid of things, go to a credible source and find out what is truly the risk you are facing right now,” Hadfield explains in the video.
The second tip is choosing goals.
“What is your mission for right now?” he said. “Make that clear, for this afternoon, the next week the next month. What do you want to get done?”
Hadfield’s third step is to take action.
“Take care of family, start a new project, learn to play the guitar, study another language, read a book, write, create. It’s a chance to do something different,” he said.
Lastly, he suggests repeating it all.
Hadfield encourages anyone that believes they may have come in contact with COVID-19 or start to show symptoms to stay home and contact health officials in your area. In Saskatchewan that would include calling the 811 HealthLine.
