The CFL rules committee is meeting over the next two days, which is time we get to think about how to fix the Canadian Football League.
I loved it when former commissioner Mark Cohon used to reach out to the fans to get a perspective on changes they’d like to see in the game. Sometimes the ideas made it into the meeting.
Now, current commissioner Randy Ambrosie has set up an innovation committee to get some suggestions from fans and others about ways to tweak some rules.
I won’t go on about the rouge right now; you know how I feel. Apply the rule on kickoffs to field goals and punts, and I’m happy.
The limit on coaches’ challenges has been a welcome one with considerably fewer delays. I still wish the league would put a cap of 90 seconds on challenges, but beggars can’t be choosers, right?
But to be honest, the CFL is at a point right now where I don’t see any glaring needs for drastic rule changes.
Maybe that means an improvement in officiating, as the standard for penalties changing every year hasn’t been easy for those wearing the stripes.
