A bizarre situation in Saskatoon’s Rosewood neighbourhood early Tuesday morning led to a man in his underwear being caught out in the cold.
Saskatoon police say they received two calls from the 300 block of Rosewood Boulevard West in quick succession around 2:30 a.m. — one for an unknown problem, the other for a break and enter.
Officers discovered that a man was taken home from a bar by people living at one of the homes after they just met.
Police said the night “took a turn” and the people living in the home asked the man to leave. He didn’t want to leave and police were told he became belligerent.
The man was eventually forced out in his underwear and the door was locked behind him.
After pounding on the door and yelling to be let back in without success, the man moved to a neighbour’s home and broke in through a basement window.
A woman sleeping in the basement room called police, and while on that call she described the man taking her drapes and using them as a robe before leaving the home.
“I was sleeping and all of a sudden I heard these knocks on my window,” the woman told 650 CKOM on condition of anonymity. “Before I could grab my phone or anything he broke through the window and jumped in.”
She explained that he seemed very confused when he got into the window.
“He was totally intoxicated, it was pretty bad, he was falling all over the place,” she said.
According to the resident, the man grabbed bright orange curtains then left her room.
“They’re not really that pretty but I guess if you’re freezing they’re not too bad,” she joked.
She just recently moved into the suite and is now considering leaving.
“I moved way out here because I thought it would be quiet and safe out here (in Rosewood) but clearly that’s not the case. Weird stuff happens everywhere,” she said.
Police say the man was located nearby, arrested and taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries related to breaking through the basement window.
A 22-year-old man now faces charges of break and enter, as well as mischief.
