The Saskatchewan Roughriders have scratched a big name off their list of pending free agents.
The CFL team announced Friday it had signed receiver Shaq Evans to a one-year contract extension. Evans was eligible to become a free agent on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old product of Inglewood, Calif., had a big 2019 season with the Roughriders en route to being named a West Division and CFL all-star.
Evans finished fourth in the league in receiving yards (1,334) and led the league in average yards per catch (18.5) after hauling in 72 passes; he also scored five touchdowns. He had a 193-yard game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the season and exceeded 100 yards receiving in six games.
Evans will be entering his third season with the Green and White. Prior to signing with Saskatchewan, he spent time in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars after being picked in the fourth round of the 2014 draft by the New York Jets.
