Shane Skjerven will become the new director of education for Saskatoon Public Schools on Aug. 1.
The board made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead Saskatoon Public Schools,” he said in a media release. “I believe our focus on academic excellence, character, engagement, and well-being will prepare all our students to thrive in the future.”
Skjerven will take over from Barry MacDougall, who has held the title for the last five years and is retiring.
Currently, Skjerven is the deputy director for the school division.
He started his teaching career in 1993 in Leoville, Sask., a media release said.
Skjerven joined Saskatoon Public Schools in 2001 and has worked as a vice-principal in several schools.
Through his career, Skjerven has worked on the development of the community education action plan, among other initiatives.
