A 47-year-old North Dakota man pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge in Weyburn Provincial Court on Tuesday.
Michael Garland Crawford was arrested Friday at the Saskatchewan-North Dakota border following a seizure by the Canada Border Services Agency.
Crawford was charged with possession of child pornography and importation of child pornography after an examination of electronic devices by Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Oungre port of entry.
The devices were turned over to the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation unit, which confirmed the images found were child pornography.
In court on Tuesday, the Crown stayed the charge of possession. Crawford was sentenced, as recommended by the Crown, to one year in jail on the importation charge, which is the minimum stated in the Criminal Code of Canada.
The Crown’s request for a forfeiture order of eight electronic devices was also approved by the court. Those items will be turned over for further examination by the police as part of the investigation.
