Following a two-week-long preliminary hearing in Saskatoon, a judge has ruled Greg Fertuck will stand trial in connection with the death of his estranged wife, Sheree.
He’s charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to human remains.
Sheree Fertuck disappeared in December 2015 after leaving her family’s farmyard east of Kenaston. Her semi-truck was found abandoned near a gravel pit nearby.
The RCMP has not recovered Sheree’s body but charged Greg Fertuck with her murder in June.
Following the arrest, RCMP Supt. Derek Williams said it is unusual but not unheard of to have a murder charge without a body.
“In this case, Crowns felt we have enough evidence to prosecute for first-degree murder, and we’ll continue to search for Sheree’s body to bring that closure to the family,” Williams said.
Greg Fertuck’s case now moves to Court of Queen’s Bench where a trial date will be scheduled.
