Loon Lake RCMP arrested a man and a woman on Saturday for multiple offences including assault on a police officer.
Mounties received a report from the Pierceland detachment of a suspicious man in a farm yard, driving a grey SUV.
An officer from Loon Lake spotted a vehicle matching the description north of the community on Highway 26. They attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but it sped away from officers.
Shortly after, the two suspects were spotted at a gas station in Makwa, where the officer arrested the man.
While escorting him to the police truck, the officer was struck from behind by the woman. The officer was able to take the man to the ground, keeping control of him.
The woman then ran back to the vehicle and armed herself with a machete. She accelerated the SUV towards the officer, who was still on the ground.
The officer moved himself and the male suspect to safety before the woman turned around and accelerated towards the officer again. She lost control of the vehicle and collided with the side of the gas station.
According to the RCMP release, the damage to the gas station was “significant.”
The officer was able to arrest both individuals without injury to them, himself or civilians.
When the RCMP searched the SUV, they found and seized the machete, six rifles, three semi-automatic handguns with five loaded magazines, a revolver, bags of ammunition, bolt cutters, a black ski mask and leather gloves.
Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50, and Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, have been charged and will appear in court in Meadow Lake Monday.
