Saskatoon’s indoor dog park has been busy with this recent cold snap.
Furbaby Pet Care, which is located on Jasper Avenue, opened up on Oct. 31. Owner Jocelyn Davey-Hawreluik said it was tough in the beginning, but the word is getting out about her new business.
“We’re just still getting found out, that we even exist,” she said. “Our usual night was kind of averaging around 20 dogs for (the) indoor dog park.”
This past week has been different, though. Davey-Hawreluik said that, on Wednesday night, around 100 dogs were in the facility.
Before she opened the new 9,000-square-foot facility, Davey-Hawreluik began in the pet care business in January 2018. She is a certified canine massage therapist, and started doing mobile pet-sitting and dog-walking. She also operates a pet taxi.
During her time driving with the pet taxi service, she heard a lot from pet owners about what was needed in Saskatoon.
“(I) really just kept my ears open,” she said. “When I wanted to expand my business, I just put into play everything that Saskatoon was asking for.”
Along with the indoor dog park, the business offers daycare for dogs, overnight boarding, pet massage, energy therapy and training for both pets and owners.
The indoor dog park boasts three areas — a large park, a small park and an extra area for the dogs that don’t like the turf.
Davey-Hawreluik said the park also has 6,500 square feet of outdoor fenced-in space for dogs that would rather be outside.
Animals need a licence from the City of Saskatoon, along with up-to-date vaccination records to enter the facility.
Davey-Hawreluik said the feedback she has received so far has all been positive, and the dogs seem to have loved their experiences.
“If their barks, and their energy, and their fun and their slobbers and hanging tongues are any indication, they’re lovin’ it,” she said.
The cost for the indoor dog park is $5 per dog per hour. It’s open from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every weeknight, and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends.
